ORF III weekly highlights: Donizetti’s “The Love Potion” from the Burg Gars opera house

Vienna (OTS) “ORF III Cabaret Summer” with Gerald Fleischhacker

At the TV premiere of Gerald Fleischhacker’s much-acclaimed fifth solo program “Lustig!” on Monday, July 22nd (8:15 p.m.), the title says it all. ORF III shows the recording from the Vindobona in Vienna as part of the “Cabaret Summer” and accompanies Fleischhacker as he fails due to the absurdities of everyday life. Afterwards, Elizabeth T. Spira goes with her “everyday stories” to the former Südbahnhof and the Westbahnhof in Vienna and meets “Am Bahnhof” (9.30 p.m.) lonely, lost and forgotten people for whom the train station is home and refuge. Finally, the documentarian does another “everyday story – resting on the highway” (10:20 p.m.) and looks around at parking lots, rest stops and gas stations.

“ORF III Cultural Tuesday” about the development of the local Alps

The “Erbe Österreich” two-part series “The development of the local Alps” (from 8:15 p.m.) on “ORF III Cultural Tuesday”, July 23rd, highlights holidays in Austria’s mountains – an experience that only became possible with the expansion of the branch lines to the more remote parts of the Alps became possible. While the major railway lines of the Austro-Hungarian period, the Southern and Western Railways, initially served primarily logistical and military purposes, the expansion of the branch lines opened the door to tourism. This is followed by “Maximilian and his Tyrol” (9:55 p.m.) about the love of the Habsburg ruler Maximilian I for the federal state. Then it goes to “Country Life: From the Brandenberg Alps to the Wattental” (9:05 p.m.), with “Am Traunsee” (9:55 p.m.) to the Upper Austrian Salzkammergut and “Around Villanders” (10:45 p.m.) to the South Tyrolean Alps.

ORF III congratulates Erwin Wurm on his 70th birthday

“Culture Today” is dedicating a special program to Erwin Wurm on Friday, July 26th, on the occasion of his 70th birthday. Wurm is one of the most successful artists of today – his “One Minute Sculptures” made him known to a broad public. In “Culture Today Special” (7.40 p.m.) Peter Fässlacher looks back at the most important stages of his artistic work.

“Berlin 1936 – Nazi Olympics” in “zeit.geschichte”

At the start of the Summer Olympics in Paris, ORF III is showing the “zeit.geschichte” documentary “Berlin 1936 – Nazi Olympics” on Saturday, July 27th (8:15 p.m.). The film highlights the collaboration between the Nazis and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) that transformed the Olympic Games from an elite event into a global spectacle. This influence still shapes the games today. The documentary reveals the dark side of the IOC through expert testimony and shows how the 1936 Games served as a blueprint for future Olympics. This is followed by the two-parter “Adolf Hitler – Everyday Life and the Rise of a Dictator” (9:15 p.m.) in which history lover Harald Sandner, who has been researching Adolf Hitler for 25 years, traces the dictator’s whereabouts from his childhood to the end of his life. His documentary highlights Hitler’s personal development, from Braunau and Vienna through the First World War to his rise to power as leader of the Nazi Party. The second part (10:15 p.m.) begins with the appointment of Adolf Hitler as Reich Chancellor in January 1933. The evening concludes with “Secrets of the Second World War – Hitler’s Medical Files” (11:15 p.m.).

The Salzburg Festival on ORF III

On Sunday, July 28th, ORF III will show the first episode of “EverymanEverywoman – The Salzburg Festival Magazine 2024” (7:50 p.m.), which reports on art, culture, interesting facts and current events on four Sundays during the festival season, about what is happening on and behind the numerous festival stages in Mozart’s city and provides exciting insights into upcoming productions and events.

Donizetti’s “The Love Potion” at the Burg Gars Opera

With Gaetano Donizetti’s “L’elisir d’amore” – “The Love Potion” – director Clemens Unterreiner brings a true opera highlight to the Burg Gars Opera. A work full of youthful love, humor and brilliant melodies – exclusively on Sunday, July 28th, at 8:15 p.m. in “erlebnis Bühne” on ORF III. The congenial directing duo Carolin Pienkos and Cornelius Obonya are responsible for the production. Both state opera stars such as Marina Nazarova (“Adina”) and up-and-coming young talents such as Matteo Ivan Rašić (“Nemorino”) sing on stage. “Culture Today” will report on the 35th anniversary of the Burg Gars Opera in a special program on Thursday, July 25th. In the “Culture Today Special” discussion (7.40 p.m.), the new director Clemens Unterreiner talks about the preparations for “The Love Potion”. “Adina” Maria Nazarova talks about how she creates her role, and Cornelius Obonya and Carolin Pienkos explain how they stage the opera at Gars Castle.
