Vienna (OTS) – Health in ORF III: Back pain and tricks with medical devices
In “MERYN am Montag” (April 8th), ORF III health expert Siegfried Meryn answers audience questions on the subject of “back pain” (6:45 p.m.). What can you do to lose as little quality of life as possible and to strengthen your back? How can chronic back pain be prevented and at what point do you need medical help? Petra Krepler, specialist in orthopedics and orthopedic surgery and head of the spine center at Speising Orthopedic Hospital, answers questions and gives useful tips.
The main evening of the “ORF III Theme Monday” is dedicated to the business of health. The new production “Ozempic & Co – what are medical miracle cures good for?” (8.15 p.m.) looks behind many medical promises: from the “weight loss injection” to “Lifewave plasters” to “Neurosocks”, the range of supposed miracle cures is large. The new production “The Business with Vitamin D” (9:05 p.m.) then explains whether and when supplementing the vitamin actually makes sense. It continues with the “tricks of the diet industry” (9:55 p.m.) in the tough fight against the pounds and the “self-healing business model – alternative medicine put to the test” (10:45 p.m.).
“ORF III Cultural Tuesday” including the premiere of “Waterways in Austria”, part two
The three-part new “Heritage of Austria” production “Waterways in Austria” (8:15 p.m.) will focus on the Drau in its second episode on “ORF III Cultural Tuesday” on April 9th. The river passes through several countries, including Austria, Slovenia, Croatia and Hungary, before finally flowing into the Danube, and has been an important trade route in Austria’s history. The documentary “Austria’s Great Travel Routes” (9:05 p.m.) then leads to the west of Vienna. The historic Linzer Straße, which was then called Poststrasse or Linzer Poststrasse, was for a long time the capital’s gateway to western Austria. Finally, “Erbe Österreich” focuses on the magnificent late Baroque summer residence of the influential Hungarian princes Esterhazy with the production “Esterhazy Castle – Traces in Hungary” (9:55 p.m.).
Documentary highlights in “Home Austria”, “Country Life” and “Land of Mountains”
“Heimat Österreich” will portray “Life in the Oberdrautal” (8:15 p.m.) between the Kreuzeck group in the north and the Gailtal Alps in the south in a new production on Wednesday, April 10th. It is considered a true natural jewel and one of the most beautiful river valleys in the Southern Alps. “Landleben” also explores southern Austria in a documentary premiere: this time it’s about life and traditions “Am Eisenpass” (9:05 p.m.), a transition to the Gleinalpe in Styria, as well as life “Auf den Styrian and Carinthian Almen” ( 9:55 p.m.).
On Thursday, April 11th, Tyrol will be at the center of two “Land of the Mountains” documentaries. The new production “Mountaineering Villages in Tyrol – Steinberg am Rofan and Sellraintal” (8.15 p.m.) is about natural idylls, peace and a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. After that, everything revolves around the “Jewel of the Mountains: Tannheimertal” (9:05 p.m.) between the impressive mountain slopes of the Tyrolean and Allgäu Alps.
“Werner Gruber’s Experimental Kitchen” in a double pack – with a new edition
In “Werner Gruber’s Experimental Kitchen” on Wednesday it’s “Galactic – with a tea bag rocket into the universe” (10.30 p.m.). The physicist delves deep into the secrets of space and addresses the question of how one could get there using a self-made rocket. From telescopes to planetariums, Gruber further explains how Galileo Galilei revolutionized stargazing.
“Thursday Night” with “Luis from South Tyrol”, twice “Cabaret in the Tower” and “Soundcheck Austria”
“Luis from South Tyrol – The Best Moments” (9:55 p.m.) opens “Thursday Night” on April 11th with a new best-of cabaret delicacies, jokes and insults from car master Manfred Zöschg. Two new editions of “Cabaret in the Tower” follow:
“Martin Kosch – Do you have a customer card?” (11 p.m.) with a cuvée of delicious everyday situations and “Michaela Obertscheider – Have fun” (11:55 p.m.) in search of an answer to the longing for a dream job, meaning and a hammock brought under one roof. “Thursday Night” presents “Live@RKH: Christl” (12:25 a.m.) with its entire range of artistic talents in a “Soundcheck Austria” edition.
“zeit.geschichte”: Premiere for, among other things, “Myth Reichsautobahn – Hitler’s failed showcase project”
On Saturday, April 13th, the new “zeit.geschichte” documentary “Mythos Reichsautobahn – Hitler’s failed showcase project” (8:15 p.m.) tells the history of the highways in Austria with a focus on the Nazi era. One of the myths surrounding the construction of the National Socialist highway is the representation that the Nazi regime succeeded in overcoming hardship and mass unemployment. However, the number of employees in the 1930s only made up a small proportion of the unemployment pool; forced laborers, prisoners of war and concentration camp inmates were the main people working on highway construction.
Four documentaries in the “Hitler’s Elite” series then shed light on “Ferdinand Porsche” (9:05 p.m.), the engineer and automobile enthusiast who played an important role in National Socialist industry; then “Albert Speer” (9:55 p.m.) – Hitler’s architect and planner, who, as later minister of armaments, made a decisive contribution to the cruel efficiency of the war machine; furthermore, Nazi rocket pioneer “Wernher von Braun” (10:45 p.m.), who used the labor of concentration camp prisoners, and finally “Werner Heisenberg” (11:35 p.m.), dubious co-developer of the German nuclear project.
Classical music with “Wiener Mädeln”, “Der Rosenkavalier” for Hofmannsthal’s 150th birthday
On Sunday, April 14th, “Operetta itself who can” presents the musical film “Wiener Mädeln” (6:30 p.m.) about Carl Michael Ziehrer, directed by Willi Forst and released in 1949. Forst also starred in front of the camera in the leading role of the young composer and conductor, who wants to step out of the shadow of the great Johann Strauss in the film. The daughters of Hofrat Munk were particularly fond of his music. Ziehrer dedicates not only a waltz to these “Viennese girls”, but also his life, because he ultimately finds his lady of hearts among the four young ladies. In addition to Willi Forst, Hans Moser, Curd Jürgens, Dora Komar, Judith Holzmeister, Lizzi Holzschuh and Anton Edthofer can be seen, among others.
On the 150th birthday of Hugo von Hofmannsthal, “erlebnis Bühne” presents Richard Strauss’ opera “Der Rosenkavalier” (8:15 p.m.), for which Hofmannstahl wrote the libretto. In the recording from the 2004 Salzburg Festival, Angelika Kirchschlager plays Octavian, Adrianne Pieczonka plays Field Marshal, Franz Hawlata plays Baron Ochs von Lerchenau, Miah Persson plays Sophie and Franz Grundheber plays Herr von Faninal. Piotr Beczała can be seen in the role of the Italian singer. Semyon Bychkov took over the musical direction and Robert Carsen is responsible for directing, who will re-stage Hugo von Hofmannshal’s showpiece, “Everyman”, in Salzburg this year.
