Also: New Year’s Eve countdown with Peter Fässlacher and Ani Gülgün-Mayr
Vienna (OTS) – To round off the year, on New Year’s Eve, on Sunday, December 31, 2023, ORF III will broadcast Johann Strauss’ operetta “Die Fledermaus” live and time-shifted for the fourth time in “erlebnis Bühne” with Barbara Rett (8:15 p.m.). After the Volksoper production last year, the New Year’s Eve classic is coming back from the Vienna State Opera this year. Under the musical direction of the Australian Simone Young, the Finnish star soprano Camilla Nylund takes on the role of Rosalinde, while Johannes Martin Kränzle plays her husband Gabriel von Eisenstein. Patricia Nolz embodies the trouser role of Prince Orlofsky. Actor Johannes Silberschneider can be seen as bailiff Frosch.
Peter Schöber, program manager ORF III:
“With the now traditional broadcast of ‘Fledermaus’ in collaboration with the Vienna State Opera, ORF III is offering a culturally sophisticated and entertaining program for everyone who is spending New Year’s Eve at home at the turn of the year. The top-class cast with Camilla Nylund, Patricia Nolz and, for the first time, Johannes Silberschneider as the frog and Simone Young at the conductor’s podium is in a class of its own. I would like to thank the Vienna State Opera, especially director Bogdan Roščić, and the artists that we can implement this wonderful project together.”
The ORF III presenters Ani Gülgün Mayr and Peter Fässlacher will report from the Vienna State Opera throughout the day on December 31st and accompany the audience into the new year with a New Year’s Eve countdown. Among other things, it’s about a wide variety of New Year’s Eve customs, but stars of the traditional New Year’s Eve “bat” such as Camilla Nylund, Johannes Martin Kränzle, Patricia Nolz and Johannes Silberschneider are also asked to be interviewed. A lively turn of the year is guaranteed with a midnight waltz.
At the ORF III New Year’s Eve, two audience favorites impress with their cabaret talent. With Klaus Eckel we first move on to “Wondering the World” (10:50 p.m.), then Viktor Gernot (around 12:00 a.m.) presents the audience with numerous pointed scenes and parodies with a colorful pile of shards of feelings, glass and wounded vanities.
On the first day of the new year, on Monday, January 1st, ORF III will show a Dacapo of the “Vienna Philharmonic New Year’s Concert 2024” in the main evening. Before that, the documentary “Prelude to the New Year’s Concert 2024” takes a look behind the scenes of the concert broadcast and the ORF New Year’s Concert Ballet.
