Vienna (OTS) – “ORF III Crime Summer” with, among others, “Agatha Christie” and “Inspector Barnaby”
The “ORF III Crime Summer” starts in July. Film adaptations of the “Agatha Christie’s Miss Marple” series, for example, guarantee high excitement – for example on Monday and Tuesday (July 1st and 2nd, 5:45 p.m.) with the productions “The Pale Horse” and “The Count’s Memoirs”. On Thursday, July 4th, “Inspector Barnaby” will also be investigating: “A Wedding and Three and a Half Deaths” (8:15 p.m.) will be followed by “A Murder Circus” (9:50 p.m.).
Monday reunion with Elizabeth T. Spira’s iconic “Everyday Stories”
ORF III commemorates the extensive film work of documentarian Elizabeth T. Spira, who died in 2019, with a special summer programming of the ORF cult series “Everyday History”. Two selected productions of this format are on the schedule on Mondays. On July 1st these are the films “For Dogs’ Hearts Beat Faithfully” (8:15 p.m.) from 1991 about the sometimes deep relationship between humans and dogs, and “In the Coffee House” (9:05 p.m.) from 1994: In it the filmmaker is in both noble Visit Vienna’s city center pastry shops as well as the sweet cake shops in the suburbs and get into conversation with regular guests.
Speaking of “everyday history”: From July 7th, ORF 2 will be presenting seven special editions of the series at the Sunday “dokFilm” event (around 11:05 p.m.).
Highlights as part of the “ORF III Cabaret Summer”
After the “everyday stories,” things continue on Monday evening (July 1st) with “Michael Niavarani – That’s how I really am” (9:55 p.m.) and then the double pack “Michael Niavarani and Viktor Gernot:
VODKA ORANGE – Best Of” (10:45 p.m.). On Tuesday there will be “The Best of Ernst Waldbrunn” (10:40 p.m.) with excerpts from his numerous sketches, plays and television appearances. On Friday, July 5th, ORF III will present “Cabaret from the Orpheum Graz”, where the local cabaret and cabaret scene will be offered a large stage. This time the “Comedy Shepherds – 100 percent” (11.35 p.m.) provide humorous moments and unforgettable laughs.
“Alpine Climate Summit: The future of the Alps – Alps without a future?” on Tuesday
The global climate crisis also threatens the Alps in a special way. At the first “Alpine Climate Summit” in Tyrol, renowned experts from Austria, Germany and Switzerland will discuss what effects the melting of glaciers has on life in the Alpine region and whether and how countermeasures can be taken. ORF III will show the exciting conversation led by Reingard Diermayr (ORF Tirol) on Tuesday, July 2nd, at 1 p.m.
“Vienna’s hidden palaces” and the Ferris wheel in “ORF III Cultural Tuesday”
In the “ORF III Cultural Tuesday” on July 2nd as part of “Erbe Österreich” Karl Hohenlohe takes a look behind the magnificent facades of “Vienna’s hidden palace” (8:15 p.m.), including the Königswarter Ringstrasse Palace, on whose first floor Katharina Schratt once resided and regularly received the highest visit from Emperor Franz Joseph, the Wilczek Palace and the Hungarian embassy in Bankgasse. In the second part of the production (9:05 p.m.) we continue to the Lamberg and Starhemberg palaces as well as to Prince Eugen’s city palace. The latter are now federal ministries and thus serve as magnificent buildings of the republic. “ORF III Cultural Tuesday” concludes with “Stories about the Ferris Wheel – with Heinz Marecek” (9:55 p.m.).
With “Home Austria” and “Country Life” to breathtaking places
On Wednesday, July 3rd, “Heimat Österreich” explores the “Around Goisern” region (8:15 p.m.) on Lake Hallstatt between the mountains of the Salzkammergut. “In Southern Styria” (9:05 p.m.), summer always begins a little earlier than elsewhere in Austria, as the subsequent “Country Life” portrait of the same name shows. The Adriatic Sea is not far, and the climate around Deutschlandsberg and Leibnitz is correspondingly mild. The people here are born with sociability, which is probably also due to traditional viticulture and the other culinary focuses. The climate in “Im Ötztal” (9:55 p.m.) in Tyrol, on the other hand, is Alpine, where “Landleben” continues the filmic journey across Austria before finally reaching its destination in “Im Nibelungengau” (10:45 p.m.) in Lower Austria.
“zeit.geschichte” evening on the 110th anniversary of the start of the First World War
ORF III is dedicating the “zeit.geschichte” evening on Saturday, July 6th, to the 110th anniversary of the start of the First World War. On June 28, 1914, the heir to the Austrian throne Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sophie were murdered in Sarajevo. What follows is a month of frantic reactions from monarchs, statesmen and diplomats. On July 28, 1914, Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia, and the European alliance constellation ultimately led to the First World War. The production “31 Days to Catastrophe – The Road to the First World War” (8:15 p.m.) traces these far-reaching events. This is followed by the documentaries “Kaiser Franz Joseph and the First World War” (9:05 p.m.), “War on the doorstep – Tyrol in the First World War” (10:00 p.m.) and at 10:35 p.m. “How we became. What we are (1916–1938)”, which comprehensively illuminate the connections surrounding the great catastrophe of the 20th century.
