ORF General Director Weißmann in the audience council: “Draw at a high level between the EU election and the country match”

Vienna (OTS) As part of the plenary session of the ORF Audience Council, which met today, Thursday, June 6, 2024, under the chairmanship of Mag. Walter Marschitz, ORF General Director Mag. Roland Weißmann informed the committee about the program successes of the past few weeks and gave a Outlook for the next few months.

Weißmann named two highlights of the past few days as examples:
The ÖFB national team’s match against Serbia on June 4th reached around 670,000 Austrians (with all preliminary and follow-up reports as well as analyses), and around 640,000 took part in yesterday’s elephant round for the EU elections. “A draw at a high level between the EU election and the country match,” said Weißmann.

The ORF general director gave an outlook and review of sports and information on ORF: “In the super sports year 2024, we will report on the men’s European football championship from the new sports studio with the largest screen in Austria.” The ORF is well positioned when it comes to sports rights – including the 2026 World Cup in Canada, Mexico and the USA with 105 World Cup games, highlights of the Bundesliga, the 2025 Women’s European Football Championship, the Olympic Games until 2032, and Formula 1 until 2026 or alpine and Nordic skiing by 2027.

Weißmann also outlined the ORF program for the super election year 2024:
“Since the beginning of the year, we have reached a total of 2.5 million people on television alone on the topic of the EU.” Verena Sophie Maier traveled through Europe for young voters and reached more than a million people, especially young people, with her content on TikTok and Instagram, said Weißmann .

The ORF General Director was also pleased about a strong increase of more than 40 percent in streaming usage of ORF content over the turn of the year and sees confirmation of the strategy of the new streaming platform ORF ON. In addition, he announced that, as part of the ORF dialogue offensive, he wanted to roll out the audience format “Ein Ort am Wort” from the Lower Austria state studio to all state studios because of its success.
