ORF Burgenland: 4,000 enthusiastic hiking fans on the “big Burgenland Tour 2024”

“Best of” in “Burgenland today” on Saturday, May 25, 2024 at 7:00 p.m. on ORF 2/B

Eisenstadt (OTS) ORF’s “Big Burgenland Tour” concluded on Friday, May 24, 2024, in Deutsch Kaltenbrunn (Jennersdorf district). Around 4,000 tour fans came along for seven days to hike together through Burgenland. From rolling hills to impressive forests – the participants were thrilled by the diverse hiking routes and the picturesque views that Burgenland has to offer.
The tour started in Seewinkel in the municipality of Andau (Neusiedl am See district). The routes then took the hiking group to Neufeld an der Leitha (Eisenstadt district), Forchtenstein (Mattersburg district), Neckenmarkt (Oberpullendorf district), Riedlingsdorf (Oberwart district), Güssing, Inzenhof and Kleinmürbisch (Güssing district) as well as Deutsch Kaltenbrunn – led by ORF -Burgenland presenter Michael Pimiskern.

ORF Burgenland country director Mag. Werner Herics: “The ‘big Burgenland Tour’ has become a brand that distinguishes ORF Burgenland. Thanks once again go to the ORF Burgenland team, the many helping hands of our partner communities and their clubs as well as the Sponsors who support this tour and make it possible.”

ORF Burgenland marketing manager and tour organizer Mag. (FH) Christina Aichner: “We are surprised every year how many people accompany us on the ‘big Burgenland tour’. I am delighted with how smoothly the tour runs Although the unstable weather conditions with the small-scale thunderstorms made it difficult, we were very happy. Our hikers arrived at their destination healthy and safe every day. It was nice to see how much joy they had every day.

That was “The Great Burgenland Tour” 2024

The starting signal was given in great hiking weather at the Reeh winery in Andau im Seewinkel with a record-breaking 700 participants – so many had never taken part on the first day. On the second day, around 650 participants hiked a 15-kilometer tour in and around Neufeld an der Leitha in imperial weather. On the third day, the “big Burgenland Tour” stopped in Forchtenstein and the route was quite demanding. While the start began with the best hiking weather, the section at Forchtenstein Castle ended with rain. It was the most attended day with 800 tour fans – and everyone reached the finish safely in the end. In Neckenmarkt the route had to be shortened due to the uncertain weather conditions. But 320 hikers were not deterred, reached the finish safe and dry and created a great atmosphere at Schwanaplatz in Neckenmarkt.

The rain also thwarted the hikers’ plans on day five in Riedlingsdorf and the route had to be shortened again due to the weather. However, around 400 people were in high spirits and continued to celebrate in the fire station at the end. Day six of the “Big Burgenland Tour” treated the 450 participants to perfect hiking weather and wonderful views. The route led from the imposing Güssing Castle through the hilly country. In sunshine and pleasant temperatures, the tour concluded on the seventh day in and around Deutsch Kaltenbrunn. More than 500 hikers took part in the final stage. A total of 4,000 hikers set out on the routes – and enjoyed the 118 kilometers on the “big Burgenland Tour” 2024.
