ORF brings TV productions back to the media campus, saving around 3 million euros per year

Vienna (OTS) From 2025, ORF will again produce the programs “Studio 2” and “konkret” using in-house technology at the ORF media campus. The morning show “Guten Morgen Österreich” will also be handled by an ORF control team in the future. The interim, temporary outsourcing for five years became necessary due to the renovation and new construction work on the media campus. With its completion, the best possible technological and organizational framework has been created for multimedia production in the digital age.

The utilization of the ORF technology can thus be sustainably increased even further, and the additional 900 hours of TV programs and multimedia online content will be possible without expanding capacity. The costs can even be reduced by around 3 million euros per year, which makes an important contribution to achieving the ORF’s ambitious savings goals. With an award volume of around 103 million euros for 2024, the ORF remains by far the largest client for the domestic film and production industry.

In a joint project between the Directorate of Technology and Digitalization, the Commercial Directorate and the Program Directorate, the entire production planning and production processes were put to the test, evaluated and further developed. The contracts with external production companies will not be extended in their current form.

Harald Kräuter, Director of Technology and Digitalization: “I am proud that ORF technology is producing more again, that we can make even better use of the existing know-how and develop further. In this way, we are also strengthening the new ORF media campus, which can be used more efficiently. We are sending a clear message about the importance of our technical production operations. Our team really does an outstanding job.”

Stefanie Groiss-Horowitz, program director: “As part of a large-scale cross-departmental project, all of our processes were examined and re-evaluated. This will make ORF even more efficient and can actively invest in programming and new innovations.”

Eva Schindlauer, Commercial Director: “This decision was preceded by an in-depth assessment in which we carefully analyzed all economic, organizational, licensing and technological framework conditions. With the new concept created on this basis, we can further increase capacity utilization and at the same time realize important savings.”
