COMÚN Foundation warns against extreme right-wing attacks on democracy, offers a protective shield for anti-fascist commitment with “counter-right protection” and invites people to network
Vienna (OTS) – The new faction of extreme right in Europe presented today demands a clear anti-fascist response. The alliance between the AfD and FPÖ has long since been completed, the demarcation from the right-wing extremist Identitarian Movement under Herbert Kickl has been abolished, and now the next step follows with the joint faction with Viktor Orban and Andrej Babiš. Little by little, those threatening democracy are banding together transnationally.
The COMÚN Foundation was consciously founded in 2021 by Veronika & Sebastian Bohrn Mena as an “anti-fascist bulwark”, with a clearly anti-racist self-image and as a future capital base for an open, diverse and, above all, defensive democracy. Even though it is still small and young, the non-profit foundation COMÚN will oppose the extreme right-wing network.
“Counter-legal protection” can ward off extreme right-wing attacks
The instrument of “counter-legal protection” is used for this purpose. This is intended to finance measures to protect against attacks of any kind – such as defending against intimidation lawsuits or taking security activities. More and more people from civil society and journalism are finding themselves in the crosshairs of the extreme right, and the state mechanisms are not sufficient to protect them:
„We cannot wait and watch idly until they take over the state and rebuild Austria based on the Hungarian model. Already now, two to twelve, we must prepare ourselves for extreme right-wing attacks on democracy. “Counter-legal protection” is a tool that is as strong as the people who participate in it. But it cannot and will not stay that way“
said Veronika Bohrn Mena, chairwoman of the COMÚN Foundation.
Donations from “Guter Rat” will be used in a targeted manner
Funds from the recently announced generous donation from Marlene Engelhorn’s “Good Council” to the COMÚN Foundation will also be used to finance anti-fascist activities. Right from the start, conscious attention is paid to cross-border networking and everyone interested, regardless of their party-political self-identification, is invited to get actively involved:
„The extreme right in Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, Italy, Belgium, France and other countries are closely coordinated in content and methods. They learn from each other and they help each other and become stronger as a result. As democrats, we must also act unitedly and decisively and unite against it now“
