On March 6th at 8:15 p.m. on ORF 1, then: “The True Story of the Beckhams”
Vienna (OTS) – The “beautiful Bua” turns 60 and the ORF congratulates with a birthday portrait: “Toni Polster – Away from the penalty area” is the motto on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at 8:15 p.m. on ORF 1. From Viennese community building to the world and back again. The documentary by Peter Koköfer and Martin S. Pusch (an ORF production produced by DMG Mediengesellschaft) traces Toni Polster’s eventful life between high altitude and down-to-earthness, between adoration and hostility. From Wiener Austria to his coaching engagement at Wiener Viktoria. On the occasion of his 60th birthday, ORF is dedicating a deeply personal film to Polster that shows the person behind the cult figure.
The Austrian national team’s record goalscorer returns to the most formative places of his life: to the courtyard of the community building, where he once learned to play football. To Seville, where he not only celebrated his greatest footballing successes, but also found great personal happiness with his wedding and the birth of his first child. To Cologne and SV Weiden, where, in addition to his playing qualities, he increasingly discovered those as an entertainer. The TV team visited the Praterstadion with Toni Polster to review the most decisive moment of his career, the legendary World Cup qualifying game against the GDR, in which he was first booed by the entire stadium and in the end, after scoring three goals, as the nation’s savior was applauded. This exceptional sporting and emotional situation for Toni Polster made it clear that neither sycophancy nor ridicule, nor cheering nor the greatest malice could dissuade the indomitable man from his path. The question will also be examined as to what role his unfiltered, undisguised nature still plays today. His family and many companions throughout his eventful career pay tribute to “Toni Polster, Football God”.
During filming, Toni Polster also won his most dramatic game, his serious illness at the turn of the year, and began a second life, so to speak. He has always retained his sense of humor and positive attitude to life – this is also evident when he meets his friend and “disgraceful brother” Alex Kristan. You can also watch it on ORF ON and in the TVthek app.
Football of the glamorous variety continues at 9:25 p.m. on ORF 1 when “The True Story of the Beckhams” is on the program.
David is a charismatic football star, Victoria is world famous as “Posh” from the Spice Girls – together the Beckhams dominate the headlines. Football enthusiasts celebrate “Becks” for his successes at Manchester United, in the English national team and later at Real Madrid. Victoria has a large fan base who follows every report about her in the tabloid press. Although the Beckhams are not only admired by the public, fashion houses such as Versace and Dolce & Gabbana are racing to get the “power couple” for their advertising campaigns. They are always striving to keep the “Beckham” brand popular.
