Olympic victory for Bundeswehr competitive athletes | Federal Ministry of Defense, August 8, 2024

Vienna (OTS) –

Platoon leader Lara Vadlau and platoon leader Lukas Mähr sailed to Olympic gold in the 470 competition in Paris. Seventh place was enough for the two army athletes in the medal race to keep the competition at bay. Vadlau, who trains at the Army Sports Center Faak am See, and Mähr, from the Army Sports Center Dornbirn, came out ahead of Japan and Sweden.

Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner: “I am incredibly proud of the performance of our sailors, platoon leader Lara Vadlau and platoon leader Lukas Mähr. With the gold medal in sailing, they have continued a successful tradition in sailing. I wish all the athletes in our squad continued success!” For Austria’s sailors it is the ninth Olympic medal after three gold, four silver and one bronze.

The Army Sports Center has been promoting Austrian competitive sports with its eleven Army competitive sports centers since 1962. Every year, up to 495 people, including 20 in sports for the disabled, are part of the army sports support program. Army sports traditionally provide numerous participants in major sporting events such as the Olympic Games, European and World Championships. The athletes of the Federal Army have already achieved numerous successes and medals for Austria in the past.
