ÖCV mourns the loss of Univ.-Prof. Dr. Dr. hc Manfried Welan

President of the Austrian Cartell Association remembers the late 3rd former President of the State Parliament and true carteler

Vienna (OTS) – The Austrian Cartell Association mourns the loss of their cartel brother Manfried Welan (FB). The former university professor of law, rector of the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences and chairman of the Rectors’ Conference died in Vienna on May 22, 2024 at the age of 86. The later state politician and 3rd President of the Vienna State Parliament was a member of the ÖCV Franco-Bavaria connection since 1957. “With Manfried Welan we are losing a valuable member, a long-standing politician and a great intellectual,” said ÖCV President Philipp Stadler-Simbürger. Welan was born on June 13, 1937 in Vienna and was actively involved in promoting political education and strengthening democracy throughout his life.

“Welan was one of those politicians who communicated on an equal level, who wanted to strengthen the political consciousness of the population and was always guided by our four principles of Religio, Patria, Amicitia and Scientia.“, explains Stadler-Simbürger. Manfried Welan was rector of the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences for three terms before he discovered politics and brought it into Vienna’s state politics. Internationally, he was involved in Austria’s UNESCO Commission from 1993 to 2003. “For his We thank him for his life’s work, his commitment to and for society and his unwavering loyalty,” said ÖCV President Philipp Stadler-Simbürger.
