As the ÖAMTC traffic experts report, there was also heavy holiday traffic on Sunday. On the one hand, the wave of return trips from the Balkan states towards Germany was noticeable and, on the other hand, there were numerous skiers traveling in western Austria.
There were repeated delays of up to thirty minutes in front of the Nickelsdorf border point (A4) and the traffic volume on the West Autobahn (A1) was also extremely heavy for a Sunday.
In Tyrol, traffic came to a standstill on numerous state roads, such as on the Eiberg Straße (B173) between Söll and Kufstein, where there were disruptions after an accident and in sections on the Fernpass Straße (B179).
In Salzburg it took a little longer on the Tauern Autobahn (A10) in the area of the Werden – Golling tunnel construction site, as there was a traffic jam in the direction of Salzburg.
In Styria, a closure of the Pyhrn Autobahn (A9) in the oncoming traffic area between Inzersdorf and Klaus caused long traffic jams in both directions after an accident in the Ottsdorf Tunnel. It was rerouted via the Pyhrnpass Straße (B138).
Currently: Danger of black ice in large parts of Austria
The ÖAMTC traffic experts warn that caution is advised when it is freezing rain. Currently, roads in Lower and Upper Austria, Upper Styria and Salzburg are particularly at risk. Please be sure to adapt your speed to the weather conditions and drive with foresight to avoid sudden steering or braking maneuvers.
