Regarding the preliminary result of the SPÖ Styria in the state elections, SPÖ federal manager Klaus Seltenheim says: “It is not the result we wanted. Anton Lang and his team ran an election campaign with a lot of passion and put issues such as housing, health and inflation in the foreground. It was the third election campaign in just a few months. I would like to thank Anton Lang and his team for their commitment,” Seltenheim told the SPÖ press service today, Sunday. ****
Seltenheim sees reasons for the SPÖ Styria’s loss in the international trend that right-wing populists are on the rise and in the announced duel between the FPÖ and ÖVP. Unfortunately, the SPÖ Styria was not sufficiently successful in winning over more voters.
Seltenheim states: “We do not see the result of the SPÖ Styria as having any impact on the ongoing coalition negotiations at the federal level.” They want to take responsibility and prove with a coalition of constructive forces that the challenges ahead can be solved. “But it won’t be easy. The budgetary situation we are facing is dramatic. There will need to be movement from all sides, especially how we deal with the question of who can contribute what. Stronger shoulders will have to contribute more,” concluded the SPÖ federal manager.
