According to a current analysis by karriere.at, the proportion of jobs with home office options is a total of 17 percent. In IT it is highest at 33 percent.
Vienna (OTS) – The proportion of jobs advertised on karriere.at that state a home office option is currently 17 percent. While it is possible to work from home in a third of the advertised IT jobs, this proportion is four percent in the areas of production and crafts. The proportion of jobs with the option of working from home has increased continuously since 2019, the year before the pandemic began. But even in 2024, being able to work from home will not be the rule, but rather the exception.
„Of course, it is not possible to work from home in every industry and every area of activity. Prime examples of professions in which this is not possible are health professions, gastronomy and tourism as well as stationary retail. What is surprising, however, is that even in fields where it is generally possible to work on a computer from any location, the percentage of jobs with the option of working from home is low. Being able to work from home is by no means a given in Austria in 2024
“, explains Georg Konjovic, CEO at karriere.at.
Job seekers clearly want the option to work from home
A survey of 1,000 users on karriere.at showed that over two thirds of job seekers are looking for a position in which they can also work from home. For 32 percent, home office is even a must. The majority of those surveyed would like to be able to work from home two to three days a week. Only seven percent want to work exclusively at home.
„The trend in office jobs is towards a hybrid way of working. This makes it possible to combine the advantages of the office – social interaction, short distances for arrangements, etc. – with the advantages of working from home, such as fewer distractions for concentrated work. If companies allow their employees to work from home at least partially and by arrangement as a team, then I recommend communicating this in the advertisements. If it is not clear to job seekers in the job advertisement that there is an option to work from home, the employer will quickly lose its attractiveness or an otherwise interesting job will not even be considered
“, are Konjovic.
