UG-Polaschek: Trade unions stand for social cohesion for all people
Vienna (OTS) – „Today, as convinced trade unionists around the world, we stand together with everyone who is oppressed, discriminated against and excluded for reasons of homophobia, biphobia, interphobia and transphobia
“, says Marion Polaschek, Chairwoman of the Independent Trade Union Group in the ÖGB and she adds: “As an association that has always fought and is still fighting for equal access to social and economic participation, we see with dismay the ever-increasing tendencies towards division that are currently occurring are becoming increasingly popular in progressive circles. We can not permit that.”
As the global rights index of the international trade union federation clearly shows, social rights are in danger worldwide and the tendency to make savings first, especially in the social sector, if transformation processes have to be financed, is also becoming increasingly visible in Europe. This often hits members of the LGBTIQ+ community faster and harder and accelerates the breakdown of solidarity in our societies.
„Access to health, safety, education and justice should not be a question of sexual orientation or social class for anyone.
And we know from studies that multiple discrimination leads to a poverty trap with all its consequences,” states Marion Polaschek and concludes: “We are committed to human rights and know that they are indivisible and universal. And we have to appear just as indivisible if we are serious
