As the nights get longer and colder, energy consumption increases. As the country’s largest energy supplier, Wien Energie takes its social responsibility seriously and supports it with comprehensive measures. From the beginning of December to the end of February, there is a waiver of switching off in the event of late payments for electricity, gas and district heating. “Solidarity in difficult times is what sets Vienna apart as a city. A warm and bright home is crucial, especially in winter. We support people in emergencies and secure their supplies with extensive measures such as the voluntary shutdown waiver,” explains Peter Hanke, City Councilor for Finance, Economics and Vienna Public Utilities.
12 million euros for people in need
In addition, Wien Energie customers will benefit from an energy aid package worth 12 million euros in the form of energy vouchers. “We supply two million people with energy – and don’t let them down even in challenging life situations. We make sure that the help reaches exactly where it is really needed. We support people in need in an unbureaucratic manner with energy vouchers in cooperation with the social institutions in this city. By voluntarily waiving the shutdown from December to the end of February, we can help customers get through the winter safely, even if they default on payments.”adds Michael Strebl, Chairman of the Wien Energie Management Board. The energy vouchers are issued directly by the social institutions to their clients. You can use them to reduce outstanding invoice amounts or ongoing costs. People in emergency situations can contact Caritas, Red Cross, Volkshilfe, Obdach Wien/Fonds Soziales Wien, the Vienna Relief Organization and Licht ins Dunkel directly.
Ombudsman office for customers: Energy help at any time
Even outside the winter months, Wien Energie has been supporting private customers and clients for more than 10 years through its own ombudsman office. “Our employees provide advice to the Viennese in difficult life situations and provide individual, personal solutions so that the living rooms stay bright and warm.”adds Strebl. All customers can also take out interest-free installment plans for additional payments or a reduction/increase in partial amounts from customer service or online at meine.wienenergie.at.
