Vienna (OTS) Corrected new version: “Hohes Haus” about the expandable appeal of the red-white-red card
On May 12th at 12 p.m. on ORF 2

Fritz Jungmayr will present the following articles in the ORF parliamentary magazine “Hohes Haus” on Sunday, May 12, 2024, at 12 p.m. on ORF 2:

Expandable radiance

Austrian companies complain about a blatant shortage of skilled workers. In order to remedy this, Economics and Labor Minister Martin Kocher wants to increase the number of red-white-red cards. In any case, their appeal can be expanded, as a report by the Court of Auditors that was discussed in the responsible committee this week shows. For highly qualified people and people who work in an occupation where there is a shortage, but also for other key workers, there is the possibility of gaining access to the Austrian labor market for a period of two years via the Red-White-Red Card. That was 8,500 people last year – at least less than hoped. Criticism comes not only from the opposition, but also from the Court of Auditors. Claus Bruckmann reports.

Forgiving electorate

Austrian politics is not immune to corruption and abuse of office scandals – this has been proven by numerous revelations in the past. But even today, several cases are making headlines. Political consequences are not always drawn after scandals. And voters also seem to be becoming more forgiving and are increasingly less likely to punish dubious or abusive behavior on election day. Is Austria becoming increasingly jaded when it comes to political scandals? Marcus Blecha and David Moidl analyzed the situation with experts.
