2024 is an exceptional year in Upper Austria, which is already culturally rich. Speaking of Bruckner
Upper Austria’s second cultural highlight of the year is the 200th birthday of Anton Bruckner. The great Upper Austrian composer and musician is paid homage all over the country. Bruckner’s birthday on September 4th will be celebrated for 24 hours, starting at midnight with the transmission of the vibrating sounds of the bells of Notre Dame via the Dachstein Ice Caves in Obertraum to Linz’s Mariendom. At 11 a.m. the Bruckner Orchestra Linz will perform in the St. Florian Abbey Basilica and at 7 p.m. the Cleveland Orchestra under Franz Welser-Möst will congratulate everyone with the big festival concert in Ansfelden, which will be broadcast live in Linz’s Donaupark. The Ars Electronica Festival finally opens at 10 p.m. – as usual, unconventionally with Bruckner’s Seventh as chamber music with an electric guitar ensemble in Linz’s Mariendom.
Hungry for real
“Z’ammkommen” is classified as an intangible cultural heritage in Upper Austria. Located along important trade routes, there have always been many inns and refreshments here. The guests not only brought stories with them, but also one or two recipes, which were happily adopted or reinterpreted and found their way into the kitchens. Even today, the menus reflect this open-mindedness and willingness to experiment: the typical Bratl in der Rein and the equally typical dumpling variations are accompanied by fish and traditional dishes in a modern dress.
