New study on wildcat corridors in Austria

Invitation to the online press conference on May 29th

Warm invitation to Online press conference “New study on wild cat corridors in Austria” on Wednesday, May 29th at 9:30 a.m.!

The Nature Conservation Association is hosting the press conference on the occasion of the recently completed study “Project ‘Network Wildcat’ – Corridor study: representations of barriers and networking needs in Austria” by Josh Lowry and Luka Kern. The study deals with possible corridors or obstacles to the spread of the European wildcat, one of the rarest native mammal species, in Austria.

The European wildcat, Wild cats, was formerly native to Austria, but is currently considered “extinct or lost”. However, in recent years there have been several reports and evidence of the rare wild animal, as well as offspring, in local forests. Unfortunately, in times of habitat destruction and fragmentation, there are fewer and fewer suitable habitats for wild cats. For this reason, the Austrian Nature Conservation Association has been committed to protecting and re-establishing this shy wild animal in Austria since 2009.

Participants:
Josh Lowry (Studienautor)
Andreas Kranz (Wildcat Nature Conservation Association expert)
Tobias Grasegger (Nature Conservation Association project manager “Wildcat Network”)
Ines Hickmann (press spokeswoman for the Austrian Nature Conservation Association)

Process:
Andreas Kranz will report on the wildcat in Austria, then Josh Lowry will present the study results. Finally, Tobias Grasegger presents the Nature Conservation Association project “Network Wildcat”. After the expert input, there is the opportunity to ask questions.

After registering at ines.hickmann@naturschutzbund.at we will send you the participation link.
