New police officers for Lower Austria

134 police officers were retired on June 27, 2025 in Göttweig, 81 were praised. Interior Minister Gerhard Karner emphasized the importance of police training for security in Lower Austria. Together with Federal Police Director Michael Takács, State Police Director Franz Popp and State Councilor Ludwig Schleritzko, he congratulated the graduates of basic training on successful completion and wished the new police students all the best for their training.

High interest in police training

Interior Minister Gerhard Karner emphasized that interest in police training in Lower Austria continued to be unbroken. “Around 3,600 applications were submitted for basic police training in 2023 and 2024, and 615 people have already applied for the 2025 admission dates, including 164 applicants for the basic training course on the border police assistant.” Karner added that the high number of applications show how great the interest in making a contribution to the security of Austria. “Our police officers do valuable work every day, and I am pleased that so many young people choose this profession.”

Federal Police Director Michael Takács emphasized: “Any retirement stands for commitment, responsibility and the firm decision to actively shape our society. Today’s celebration shows that we can count on a new generation of police officers – motivated, well trained and ready to stand up for security in Lower Austria.”

Continuous reinforcement of the police in Lower Austria

The admission and training of new police officers is an essential part of the security strategy in Lower Austria: in 2022, 289 police officers were included in basic training, in 2023 the number rose to 340 recordings. Another increase was recorded in 2024 with 409 new police officers. For 2025, around 380 police officers are expected to complete the training and strengthen the police in Lower Austria.
