The board and supervisory board of the Carinthia University of Applied Sciences are reorganizing. Karl Cernic is the new chairman of the board, with him Petra Rodiga-Laßnig and Wolfgang Pucher complete the team. Beate Gfrerer takes over the chairmanship of the foundation.
Structure of the FH Carinthia: Foundation and subsidiary
The Carinthia University of Applied Sciences has been reorganized since 2022. The operational teaching and research company is managed by a non-profit GmbH, while the FH Carinthia Private Foundation as Holding presents the strategic guidelines. The foundation, which is closely connected to the Carinthia region, is worn by volunteers and regional stakeholders.
New Board of the FH Carinthia Private Foundation
Karl Cernic takes over the chair of Sabine Herlitschka. Born in Villacher, he has been deputy chairman of the foundation since 2020 and has extensive experience from the health and administrative sector. As the managing director of the Carinthian health fund and former commercial director of the Klagenfurt Clinic, he worked in managerial positions for over 15 years. Cernic studied applied business administration at the University of Klagenfurt and completed a doctoral studies and a master’s degree in public management & health care management. In addition to his professional activity, he is active as a lecturer at various universities and the author of numerous publications. “I am pleased to take on this honorable task from Sabine Herlitschka and, together with the board team, further promote the strategic goals in teaching, research and innovation,” said Cernic.
Sabine Herlitschka resigns her function as the previous chairman of the board of trustees. In recent years, she has promoted the reform of the Carinthia University of Applied Sciences and in cooperation with the actors. With this reform, it has also been organized by organization that it can cope with the special challenges in times of digitization and hybridization, successful acting in the Adriatic region and at the same time strengthening regional anchoring flexibly and in a targeted manner. “The success of the Carinthia University of Applied Sciences in the education sector as well as in successful research collaborations, especially in the past years of crisis, show the effectiveness of the joint work. I am particularly pleased that the establishment of educational lubs has succeeded as an innovative and contemporary format and is now being fulfilled with life step by step,” said Sabine Herlitschka.

New chairmanship of the private foundation
Beate Gfrerer, Managing Director of the Carinthian Volkshochschulen, takes over the chair of the Supervisory Board of the FH Carinthia private foundation of Petra Rodiga-Laßnig due to the change to the board. Gfrerer has been the deputy chairman of the supervisory board for years. She has been working in adult education for 30 years and has headed the Carinthian adult education centers since 2015. As an expert in this area, she is excellently networked in both Carinthia and federal level and is involved in numerous educational and economic bodies.
The Supervisory Board of the Private Foundation, consisting of ten members who are sent by the donors, defines the strategic guidelines for university development and monitors the work of the board of trustees. The aim is to strategically advise the university, to bring in expertise and to promote networking between the university and the economy.

Supervisory Board of the subsidiary
The Central Committee of the FH Carinthia has its own strategically and subject-oriented supervisory board, which supports and monitors the university in its educational and research-oriented orientation. As before, Sabine Herlitschka keeps the chair.
