Vienna (OTS) – The sponsoring association of the Austrian Press Council has unanimously elected Sandra Walder and Daniel Lohninger to Senate 3.
Daniel Lohninger was a journalist for the “Niederösterreichische Nachrichten (NÖN)” for several decades and has been its editor-in-chief since November 2017. He has also been teaching at the FH Wiener Neustadt since 2021 and is, among other things, chairman of the Association for the Promotion of Journalism in Lower Austria. Lohninger is pleased about his election as a member of the Senate: “The Press Council is the only institution in Austria that ensures that journalistic-ethical principles are actually lived – and is therefore indispensable not only for our media landscape, but above all for our society.”
Sandra Walder is also new to Senate 3. The journalist was a foreign correspondent for the “dpa – German Press Agency” for many years before becoming head of an interdepartmental climate team at the “APA – Austria Press Agency” in 2021. Since November 2022, Walder has also been head of the chronicle department at the “APA”. Walder on her election: “Freedom of the press must be defended as one of the greatest assets of our democracy. In particular, scientifically untenable reporting that trivializes man-made climate change should be examined more closely in the future.”
The new members succeed Martin Gebhardt and Wolfgang Unterhuber, who have been working in Senate 3 since 2015 – the sponsoring association thanks them for their years of commitment to the Press Council.
