On March 1, 2025, Tobias Lang took over the management of the Austrian Peace Center (ACP) by Moritz Ehrmann, who returns to the Foreign Ministry. Long to his new task: “My goal is to establish the ACP with its unique location at Friedensburg Schlaining as an international hub for practical peace and conflict research. At the same time, it is important to me to further strengthen the regional anchoring of the ACP in Burgenland – for example in the areas of peace education and neighborhood mediation. ”
Expertise in the Middle East
The new director studied political science in Vienna and is an internationally cited expert on religious minorities in Syria, Lebanon and Israel – his book “The Drusen in Lebanon and Israel” was published by Klaus Schwarz Verlag in 2013. Another research focus is also on Austria’s foreign policy in the Middle East. This means that Tobias Lang can contribute to the area of conflict processing of the ACP, the focus of which has been on peace promotion in the Middle East for many years. He is also a Research Associate at Herbert C. Kelman Institute.

Large professional network in Burgenland
Professionally, Tobias Lang already moved to Burgenland in 2016. As head of a government office and club director in the Burgenland state parliament, he gained organizational and management experience at the interface between politics and administration. Most recently, he was responsible for international relations as a speaker in the office of Governor Hans Peter Doskozil. Already during this time there was intensive cooperation with the ACP.
Im Austrian Forum for Peace the new director sees great potential. The conference is unique in Austria in this form and is to gain international relevance under its leadership. The Austrian Forum for Peace 2025 “Peace in Crisis” takes place between June 30 and July 3 at Friedensburg Schlaining.
