On April 3, the new funicular for Hallstatt was presented, a joint project of the Salzwelten, the architecture firm Hasenauer.architects and the Doppelmayr Group. With this new cable car, the capacity is increased from currently 24 to 60 people per trip in order to meet the increasing demands of tourism. The overall project serves the tourist development and future of the Salzwelten at the Hallstatt location.
The existing train is still in operation until August 31, and the salt mine in Hallstatt can also be visited by then. The Salzburg and Altaussee salzblels are then available as an alternative.
The Doppelmayr Group-represented by Garaventa, the stand cable car expert, as well as Carvatech, the cabin manufacturer from Obersweis-is responsible for the technical implementation of the new cable car. The cabins have innovative level control, which enables barrier-free approach and exit. The design of the modern glass cabins is based on the form of “salt crystals” and thus sets a striking, unique architectural sign.
Michael Leithinger, sales manager at Carvatech, is proud: “The new stand cable car will inspire your visitors. The cabin design, inspired by Salzkristallen, is a special highlight of the new facility, just like the innovative level compensation, which will ensure pleasant driving comfort. We are very happy to be able to implement this unique project together with the salt woodproofing.”
The Hasenauer, based in Saalfelden, ensure that architects ensure that the valley station integrates harmoniously into the UNESCO World Heritage landscape, without foregoing modern comfort. The valley station is designed generously and flooded with light and creates an inviting atmosphere for visitors. Access to the train is already staged and giving the guests an entertaining visit.
The valley station with a usable area of a remarkable 1,500 m² combines functionality with variety. While she will optimally steer visitor traffic and facilitates the daily operating, repair and maintenance processes behind the scenes, it offers visitors an extraordinary shopping area. The 280 m² flagship store of the salt store offers high -quality souvenirs and a variety of regional salts from our own production and thus ensures tasteful memories.
Once on the mountain, guests can expect a spacious viewing terrace, which offers a spectacular view of Hallstatt, Hallstätter See and the surrounding mountains. In addition, the mountain station is supplemented by a gastronomy offer.
Torsten Pedit and Barbara Winkelbauer, Managing Director of Salzwelshel, explain: “The new cable car will not only offer Hallstatt a sustainable solution for tourism, but also create a unique experience for our visitors. With a significant increase in capacity, the latest technology and an impressive design, the cable car becomes a new landmark.”
