Neos Vienna welcome the end of political influence on the ORF
Vienna (OTS) –

NEOS celebrate another success on the way to an independent public service broadcasting: the right of hearing of the governors when ordering the ORF state director: inside is abolished. For Selma Arapović, club chairwoman of Neos Vienna, this is a crucial step towards a more important ORF.

“It was a relic from past times that governors have so far been able to have a say in the ORF personnel decisions. This is now the end – and that is a good thing,” says Arapović. “This reform strengthens journalistic independence throughout Austria and thus also with us in Vienna.”

Since its foundation, NEOS has been fighting for an end to the party political thread on public service broadcasting and an independent, transparent media landscape. With the system change adopted by the federal government, the next step is now followed by clean media policy.

“An independent ORF is a basic condition for functioning democracy. The fact that this long-standing Neos claim has now been taken over shows that reforms are possible-if you have the political courage,” emphasizes Arapović.

NEOS was also able to achieve a success when it comes to the ORF household levy: the multiple settlement for entrepreneurs: inside with several locations is abolished. “It was simply incomprehensible that companies with several branches had to pay several times. This unnecessary load is now off the table – that’s fair and fair.”

The goal of neos media policy at all levels: a transparent, state-proof and citizen-based public service broadcasting.
