While the red-pink coalition talks are in the final sprint, the Wiener Neos decided on Saturday about a change of personnel: In the event of an entry into the city government, Bettina Emmerling will carry out the office of mayor and city councilor.
“Everyone of Bettina Emmerling knows that she is burning for the best education. This passion and her many years of experience as an educational spokeswoman and club chairwoman make her a logical mayor of the next city government, which will also be responsible for the education department,” said Christoph Return, State Spokesman for NEOS Vienna. “I wish Bettina every success for this task and I am sure that she will drive significant reforms in Vienna.”
Bettina Emmerling has been a member of the Vienna municipal council and state parliament since 2015. As an educational spokeswoman for the party and club chairwoman of the past five years, she not only knows education policy, but also the government business. According to Christoph Wechsel, she took over the office of Vice Mayor and led Neos Vienna together with Selma Arapović through the Vienna election campaign, in which the liberals were confirmed with 10 % for her honest work.
The Wiener Neos want to maintain their reform course. Bettina Emmerling: “I would like to thank our committees for great trust. However, our members have to vote on the coalition agreement, and I have the highest respect. The office of mayor brings many challenges, but above all opportunities. Together with Minister of Education Christoph Wieder, we will ensure that the school around the corner is the best school for all children.”
On June 7, the Wiener NEOS will decide at their state general meeting whether they will enter the new city government. “I am ready to tackle and work every day for the Viennese to be able to look optimistically into the future,” concluded Emmerling.
