NEOS are surprised by the six-point program presented today against ‘school problems’ by the Vienna Greens. “A large part of the required measures falls within federal competence, where the Greens themselves are in the government,” emphasizes NEOS Vienna club chairwoman Bettina Emmerling. “Christoph Wiederkehr has already provided 150 additional support staff for Vienna’s compulsory schools and is planning a further 1.5 million euros for this Expansion. We in Vienna are increasing support staff and psychosocial staff wherever possible. The federal government, on the other hand, has been promising school secretariats for compulsory schools for a long time and has largely failed to implement this measure, which is leading to a continued disadvantage for compulsory schools and causing further disappointment just in time for the start of school Educators and students care.”
Just last week, NEOS Vienna City Councilor for Education Christoph Wiederkehr presented a comprehensive support package for Viennese schools. Around 91 million euros will be invested to provide over 400 additional support staff.
“In Vienna we take in over 80% of the children from family reunification, but only receive 20% of the additional permanent positions. A residency requirement that fairly distributes exceptional students across Austria would significantly relieve the burden on Vienna without overburdening schools elsewhere “But this leverage lies at the federal level, where the Greens have been in charge for five years and have not delivered the necessary reforms in the education sector,” concluded Emmerling.
