Brandstätter: “We need a strong and independent Europe that can take care of our security.”
Brussels/Vienna (OTS) – “In view of the political chaos in the USA, it is more important than ever: we need a strong Europe that can assert itself and is significantly less dependent on the USA and an American president. President Biden is proving himself to be a responsible statesman today. We are now hoping for a new person at the head of the Democrats who understands and continues to uphold the importance of cooperation with Europe,” says NEOS delegation leader and foreign policy spokesman Helmut Brandstätter after Joe Biden announced that he would withdraw his candidacy.
“We need to take our European security more into our own hands. Trump has announced several times that he has no interest in Europe and dreams of ending Putin’s war of aggression in 24 hours. Trump would be a danger to the security of Europe and therefore to the security of Austria.” Especially in view of the situation in the USA, Austria finally needs a new security strategy in which Russia is no longer an “essential” partner, said Brandstätter.
