National Council President Walter Rosenkranz visited Hungary
Wien (PK) –

Vienna/Budapest (PK) – During his visit to Budapest, National Council President Walter Rosenkranz and his Hungarian counterpart László Kövér spoke about the close cooperation between the two parliaments and the future of Europe. With Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, he exchanged information about the domestic situation of both countries and international challenges. Rosenkranz also met with the Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó and the representative for fundamental rights Ákos Kozma.

Kövér and Rosenkranz hope to continue the close cooperation

The focus of the conversation with the President of the Hungarian National Assembly László Kövér was the close relationships between the two countries. Hungary and Austria have many common interests, said National Council President Walter Rosenkranz. During the Cold War, Hungary was the westernmost part of the Eastern Bloc and Austria the easternmost part of the western world, explained Kövér. Now both would be in the heart of Europe, the parliamentary president agreed. They both expressed their hope that the close cooperation will continue at all levels. The direct dialogue at the level of MPs is also important.

For Rosary, it is an honor for keeping a keynote at the EU Parliament Presidential Conference in Budapest in May, the National Council President emphasized. In this context, the two parliamentary president also exchanged information about the future of Europe, which is one of the most important future topics for Kövér. For the rosary, the founding ideals of the EU, namely peace and the promotion of the economy to the well -being of Europe, should come to the fore again.

Exchange with Prime Minister Orbán and Foreign Minister Szijjártó

With Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, Rosenkranz spoke about the domestic policy situation in both countries and about challenges for democracy at an international level. “Austria’s domestic policy is currently overshadowed by a budget crisis. The resulting austerity course is not foreseeable in its concrete effects for people, let alone really noticeable,” said Rosary. But that will change drastically. As President of the National Council, he is always trying to keep the equidistance, although, as a FPÖ politician, he, of course, has thought about the political situation. In order to meet challenges for democracy, Rosenkranz advocated investing in the formation of young people.

At the center of the conversation with the Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó were the Russian war of attack against Ukraine and transatlantic relationships. (Conclusion) Kar
