The developments in Russia’s aggressive war against Ukraine and the bilateral relationships of Austria with Ukraine were the focus of a video discussion between National Council President Walter Rosenkranz and Ruslan Stefantschuk, the chairman of the Werchowna Rada of Ukraine. There is no doubt that the war that started by Russia was contrary to international law, Rosenkranz stated. The outcome of the war will decide whether future generations would live in a democracy or in a autocracy and whether democracy wins against the dictatorship, said Stefantschuk. Ukraine is most interested in peace, but not at all costs, he emphasized. Peace negotiations could only take place with Ukraine at the negotiating table and not across Ukraine, said Rosenkranz and added that Austria would offer itself as a neutral place for negotiations.
Rosenkranz emphasized that there will be no change in bilateral relationships and with the help and support of Ukraine by Austria. He assured his counterpart to collaboration, insofar as this was possible in the context of neutrality. The neutrality of Austria is a “model of success” and military neutrality is an important basis for Austrian democracy, explained the National Council President.
