“My darling gets everything” – “Am Schauplatz” about unbridled love for animals

On March 14th at 9:05 p.m. on ORF 2

Vienna (OTS) It’s a booming market – everything you can buy for dogs and cats: from vegan, handmade treats to organic meat cakes to a luxury stay in a hotel where your four-legged friend can relax with a massage and aromatherapy. A pet is not an animal, it is said, but a friend, a living being, a family member, on which money is spent accordingly. Estimates suggest that spending on pet food will exceed 650 million euros for the first time in 2024. There are currently around two million cats and 766,000 dogs living in Austrian households.

Life with four-legged friends and the love for pets has changed enormously in recent years. “It’s an honest, fair love – the kind you often don’t get from people,” says Mr. B., who rescued a sick breeding dog from a killing station. And Ms. D. adds: “The animals don’t care whether you are healthy or sick, whether you are pretty or ugly, they recognize the core of your being.” For the “Am Schauplatz” report “My darling gets everything” – to be seen on Thursday, March 14, 2024, at 9:05 p.m. on ORF 2 – Gudrun Kampelmüller pursued this unbridled love of animals and met people who could no longer imagine life without a pet.
