Musical vocational students rocked the stage of the Vienna Arena | City vienna

Vice Mayor Wiederkehr attended the finale of the 20th KUS sound project

Vienna (OTS) On Saturday, February 17, 2024, the KUS sound project celebrated its 20th anniversary in the Vienna Arena. The competition for musical vocational students, supported by the KUS (Culture and Sports Association of Vienna Vocational Schools), presented the best musicians and bands in the “Night of Apprentice” in front of an enthusiastic audience.

“Music connects and creates space for creative development: vocational students between the ages of 16 and 24 get free rap, dance or voice workshops at KUS and the opportunity to get on a CD or on stage in the cool ambience to perform in the former slaughterhouse and today’s Arena cultural center. Supporting young people in artistic projects is good for their development and for the community as well as for the cultural wealth of our society. Together we want to promote talent and make the city of Vienna a place where young people can develop their creative potential,” says Vice Mayor and Youth City Councilor Christoph Wiederkehr.

The event in the arena is considered the highlight of the sound contest for apprentices. The 15 best musicians or bands were selected in May by a jury, including the beatboxer Fii (Michael Krappel) and the musicians Tini Trampler and Marina from Marina and the Cats.

“It is a great pleasure for us to be able to offer the Viennese apprentices the opportunity to show their talents beyond their vocational training and to accompany them along the way to develop and expand their creative skills,” says Brigitte Eberhard, managing director of the KUS network for education, social affairs, sport and culture.

The best 15 musicians – from IT, automotive and media technology apprentices to apprentices in musical instrument production – also had a day in the recording studio, where they were able to record their songs under professional conditions and have their contributions immortalized on the Soundproject CD . All award-winning pieces of music from the last 20 years and the current songs can be listened to in the KUS Soundproject database: https://soundproject.kusonline.at/musik/.

The KUS – cultural and sports association of the Vienna vocational schools

The cultural and sports association of the Viennese vocational schools has existed since 1953 and aims to provide the more than 20,000 Viennese apprentices with the best possible support in all matters. Tutoring, German and specialist courses, preparation courses for final apprenticeship examinations as well as advice and coaching services are organized. In Vienna there are 21 vocational schools at 7 individual locations and in 4 central vocational school buildings. The KUS reaches 18 of the 21 schools at 4 individual locations and all central vocational school buildings and operates social education facilities at these schools that act as contact points. Motivated apprentices can take part in the Vienna Vocational Matura program free of charge in order to complete the vocational maturity examination parallel to their apprenticeship training.
