Music in complete darkness at ORF Vorarlberg

“Ensemble Plus” presents “Solstices” by composer Georg Friedrich Haas on February 24th at the ORF-Landesfunkhaus Vorarlberg

Vienna (OTS) A concert in complete darkness: This is what the internationally renowned composer Georg Friedrich Haas, who grew up in Vorarlberg, demands for his work “Solstices”. The Vorarlberg “Ensemble Plus” will perform this composition on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at 8 p.m. at the ORF-Landesfunkhaus Vorarlberg in Dornbirn. A CD will also be recorded at the same time. This is the Austrian premiere of the original version and also the first CD recording of “Solstices” ever.

Unique concert experience

The complete darkness in the concert hall is an interesting challenge not only for the audience, but especially for the ten musicians. Without a conductor, they are even more dependent on attentive and incredibly sensitive cooperation.

Markus Klement, regional director of ORF Vorarlberg: “The ‘Ensemble Plus’ and Georg Friedrich Haas – that means top-class high culture from Vorarlberg twice. For us it is a pleasure and at the same time a great honor that this top-class musical performance is taking place here at the ORF-Landesfunkhaus Vorarlberg.”

Jasmin Ölz, ORF Vorarlberg cultural coordinator: “There is already a long tradition in ORF Vorarlberg’s cultural reporting of putting contemporary arts in the spotlight. Our cultural editorial team brings music, dance, literature and the stage closer to people in all their exciting, modern diversity.”

Guy Speyers, artistic director of “Ensemble Plus”: “It is a great honor for us that we are able to perform ‘Solstices’ at the ORF-Landesfunkhaus Vorarlberg – and, as the composer intended, in complete darkness. From a musical perspective, this is a big challenge. The darkness is like an eleventh musician at our side. I would like to thank ORF Vorarlberg for their years of great cooperation and for their trust in us and this extraordinary musical project.”
