Vienna (OTS) From Friday, June 7th, all museums in the MuseumsQuartier will be open to visitors again. After a six-month closure due to renovation work on the inside and outside of the museum building, the mumok is open again.

MQ E+B GesmbH invested over two million euros in the complete renovation of the museum’s two glass roofs with an area of around 425 m2.

While the renovation project inside the building was carried out by the responsible Federal Museum itself, the MQ took over the renovation of the glass roofs to the latest technical standards. The aim was to achieve an improvement in energy efficiency and thus take a big step towards a “green cultural district”. The new triple insulating glass enables more energy-efficient compliance with climate values and results in a significant improvement in thermal insulation with around 50 percent less heat loss. Also new is a modern sun protection system.

Despite the short construction period and the complexity of the renovation work and various other renovations, they were completed on time. The good cooperation between MuseumsQuartier and mumok as well as the commitment of the executing companies were crucial.

One of the most important tasks of the MuseumsQuartier is the maintenance of the area. The thoughtful use of new technologies and targeted modernization measures are crucial to achieving the goal of climate neutrality by 2030. Next year, a further important step in this direction will be taken with the roof renovation of the Leopold Museum“, says MQ director Bettina Leidl.

The renovation was financed, among other things, with support from the European Union – NextGenerationEU (climate-fit cultural companies).
