In the large -scale focus campaign “Hüttenzauber” of the Austria tax office, the committed employees controlled ski huts at more than 20 locations in Styria, in Salzburg and Tyrol at the end of February 2025. The financial police in the office for fraud control was supportive in this commitment. In the course of the reviews, more than 30 violations of reporting and social security law provisions and against the registration fund obligation could be found.
“Combating fraud is a question of justice. Anyone who cheats does not only harm the state, but all honest taxpayers,” says Finance Minister Markus Marterbauer.
Preliminary selection of the companies with data analyzes
In the run -up to the controls, gastronomy operations in the ski areas had already been selected for the reviews after extensive data analyzes. The focus was on checking the cash registers. From the Styrian Enns and Murtal to the Salzburg Inner Mountains, the ski areas around the Wilder Kaiser and in East Tyrol to Axamer Lizum to the Innsbruck Patscherkofel, around 40 examiners were partly on skis to reach the huts.
A total of 53 companies were checked on several days of operation. So far, 32 violations of the registration security regulation and the document and individual recording obligation have been uncovered in the course of dealing with controls. Malversations in the technical programming of health insurers were also discovered, which are now evaluated.
In addition, several violations were uncovered according to labor law. The examiners filed 5 ads according to the General Social Insurance Act and an advertisement in accordance with the Unemployment Insurance Act.
Due to the uncovered violations, there are now also 20 audits by the Austria tax office, which are expected to lead to further advertisements and punishments. Depending on the offense, punishments of several thousand euros can threaten.
