More healthy years of life through exercise

We all want to live in good health for as long as possible – getting enough exercise is particularly important for this.

The Austrian one Initiative 50 days of exercise”which was launched jointly by Fit Sport Austria GmbH and the Healthy Austria Fund (FGÖ), has shown how easy it is to move healthily and how much fun it is, together to be active.

The aim was to motivate people of all ages to exercise more, Joy of movement to find and new forms of movement to get to know and thus the Health and well-being to strengthen.

Under the motto Fit together. Move with me!” invited sports clubs and communities across Austria to attend free exercise events, action days and taster courses for 50 days, from September 7th to October 26th. Health Minister Johannes Rauch emphasizes the importance of regular exercise for personal health and quality of life: “Numerous studies show how important it is to get enough exercise – for both physical and psychological well-being. The ’50 Days of Exercise’ initiative offered people of all ages throughout Austria numerous opportunities to become physically active – this promotes health and ensures more healthy years of life.”

Vice Chancellor Sports Minister Mag. Werner Kogler highlights the connection between health-promoting exercise and sport: “A lot has literally happened in the last four and a half years – from increasing the sports budget by 78% to the first steps in rolling out daily exercise units. Initiatives like ’50 Days of Exercise’ ideally complement and reinforce these positive developments by getting people in our country excited about sport and exercise. Our goal is to motivate people to live a healthy and joyful lifestyle. Sports clubs all over Austria offer tailor-made exercise options for exactly this purpose. Doing sports in a club with family, friends or like-minded people also has a psychosocial effect.”

Exercise is healthy – but how much exercise is recommended?

Die Initiative „50 days of exercise“ is a cooperation between the Healthy Austria Fund and Fit Sport Austria GmbH, a GmbH of the three popular sports associations ASKÖ, ASVÖ and SPORTUNION, another partner is the Association of Alpine Clubs in Austria (VAVÖ). It is supported by the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Sports.

Two exercise initiatives – one goal: more exercise for better health

With the “50 Days of Movement” initiative, the FGÖ also supported the ORF initiative “WE MOVE AUSTRIA” a joint campaign to motivate people in Austria to exercise and sport more and thus promote physical and mental health. The ORF was also able to win over Sport Austria, the Austrian sports associations, the Ministry of Sports as well as the Austrian Armed Forces, the Austrian Association of Municipalities and the Austrian Association of Cities. The campaign period for the initiatives ended on October 26th with a big final event in Vienna in front of the Burgtheater and an eventful “lap around the ring” with many well-known athletes.
