On Monday, December 16th, the chairmanship team of the Austrian Students’ Union (ÖH) together with representatives of the Climate Council of the Universities invites you to a press conference. The demands that the University Climate Council developed in intensive consultations are presented.
The Climate Council of the Universities met from December 6th to 8th and was launched by the ÖH. The aim of this was to establish and promote solutions to the climate crisis in a democratic way. The ÖH is convinced that such solutions are not only necessary, but also feasible – especially if those who actively shape the higher education sector are directly involved in the process. These include students and university employees alike.
The Climate Council consisted of 30 students and 3 teachers who were selected to be representative of Austria’s university landscape. The members, aged 18 to around 50, come from a wide range of disciplines, including (veterinary) medicine, political science, law, environmental science, sociology, teaching, theater studies and history, and were randomly selected. They represent universities from Vorarlberg to Burgenland and bring a broad perspective to the discussion.
Supported by a team of professional moderators, the participants developed 26 concrete demands for the higher education sector. These are aimed at both the rectories and politics in Austria.
