Modern CT device put into operation

Modern CT device put into operation
St. Pölten (OTS) –

Since the end of November, after a two-week renovation phase, we have been working with a new, state-of-the-art computer tomograph with 32-line technology. With the replacement purchase, the latest medical and technical standards and the best possible medical care are ensured at LK Scheibbs.

The new CT offers many improvements at LK Scheibbs for the benefit of patients. “The modern device enables the examination processes to be accelerated and the radiation dose to be reduced. The images are more precise with the state-of-the-art device, diagnoses can be made more quickly with the help of software and the necessary therapies can therefore be initiated more quickly,” says Ludwig Schleritzko, the state councilor responsible for the state clinics, who is impressed.

The new technology enables an improvement in image quality, which is particularly relevant for the key areas of care in orthopedics and traumatology as well as for oncology. “Due to our focus on orthopedics and traumatology, we care for many patients with metal in their bodies (e.g. artificial joints). The metals interfere with the CT image and make it difficult to see some areas. Despite this disruption, the new CT delivers better image quality and thus offers so-called “metal artifact reduction”. For the focus on oncology, the new CT ensures precise tissue sampling and refinement of therapy (e.g. drainage, etc.) through an adapted biopsy mode. Vessels in the brain area, the entire aorta and peripheral vessels in the pelvic bone regions can be accurately visualized. There is also the possibility of CT-guided nerve root infiltration in the spine area,” reports Prim. Dr. Arnold Heisinger, MSc on some of the advantages of the new device.

The fact that the new computer tomograph requires up to 70 percent less radiation exposure, a reduced amount of contrast agent and shortened examination time are further conveniences for the benefit of patients and are particularly relevant for those with poor general health. “With the new CT we are setting another milestone for a modern hospital. The use of artificial intelligence in imaging is planned until March 2025 and is further evidence of the constant development, highly professional medicine and continuous striving for quality and innovation in medical care at the Scheibbs State Hospital,” adds the clinic management. Radiology has been fully digitalized for around 15 years. In addition to the CT, the entire fluoroscopy room was also newly equipped with a ceiling stand this year.
