Ministry of Finance launches campaign to encourage donations

The “Donate Well, Everything’s Well” campaign runs until June 30, 2024

Vienna (OTS) Donations and volunteer work are the main pillars of social cohesion in Austria. The special contribution that donors make, but also the achievements of those people who volunteer, cannot be valued highly enough.
The amendment to the Non-Profit Act represents the biggest reform in the area of donation deductibility in 15 years. For the first time, the purposes eligible for donations are linked to non-profit status. This means that all non-profit organizations can potentially be included in the donation allowance.

Finance Minister Magnus Brunner is pleased about this success for Austria’s non-profit organizations: “Around 45,000 additional organizations in the areas of education, sport, art and culture will benefit from the expansion. In this way we are strengthening volunteer work and relieving the burden on taxpayers.”

Campaign “Donate Well, Everything’s Well”
Club culture is very important in Austria. Especially in times of digitalization, in which people have less and less personal contact with one another, it is important to strengthen this area sustainably and in a targeted manner and to secure the existence of numerous small clubs through sufficient donations. Since more associations now have the opportunity to be eligible for donations and can also communicate this to their donors, this information activity is significantly supported by the Ministry of Finance.

Particularly important to know: Since the beginning of April 2024, associations that pursue non-profit and charitable purposes have had the opportunity to apply for donations. These requests must be submitted by June 30, 2024. If all requirements are met, the Austrian tax office will issue a donation allowance by means of a notice by October 31, 2024 at the latest. The donation allowance applies retroactively to donations from January 1, 2024.
It is therefore important to inform clubs in a timely manner about the possibility of submitting an application for donations.
Therefore, this campaign is aimed at clubs and people who have overlaps with clubs. In order to optimally reach these target groups, information is provided in print media and online channels that are particularly relevant for clubs. The central information platform for the campaign is the website bmf.gv.at/spendegut set up by the BMF
