The position “Head of Collections and Exhibitions” is advertised at the Military History Museum (HGM) in Vienna. In addition to managing collections and restoration, the position also includes chief curation. The tasks include further professionalizing the exhibition activities and aligning the content with contemporary ideas. With the redesign of the HGM, in addition to this position, a further 20 new jobs were advertised.

Preserving, expanding and preparing the museum’s collection for visitors is not only a necessary task to preserve the country’s cultural heritage, but also a particularly worthwhile one in the spirit of national spiritual defense.”
Processing the collection and strengthening the areas of exhibitions and education
The HGM’s collection, which currently ranges from the 16th to the 20th century, will in future be expanded into the 21st century, with a focus on “military and society”. A newly formed curatorial team will further develop the exhibition areas and oversee them based on current academic and public discourses.
Director of the Military History Museum Georg Hoffmann: “The department head ‘Collections and Exhibitions as well as Chief Curation’ is one of the most important positions at the Military History Museum, which is of central importance for the modernization and development of the house. As part of the museum’s new organizational plan, not only collection activities, but also the newly created exhibition system, object management and museum communication will be anchored here in the future. In doing so, we are taking another big step towards a modern museum facility that sees itself as a scientific discussion platform. I am therefore looking forward to many applicants for this important position.”
The Military History Museum
The Military History Museum is one of the largest and oldest historical museums in Europe with unique historical collections and an extensive, established permanent exhibition. In the future, the exhibitions will enable discourse on current social events and point out the role of people as actors, the military and the connection between war and society.
