MFG in Tyrol excluded from the ÖH top candidate debate: An attack on democratic discourse
Linz (OTS) –

It is with great regret that we have to note that the MFG was not invited by the ÖH Innsbruck to the top candidate debate at the University of Innsbruck – even though the MFG will be on the ballot paper in the upcoming National Council election on September 29, 2024 in Tyrol becomes.

Ferdinand Hofbauer, MFG top candidate Tyrol: “While it is unfortunately no longer a surprise that large media outlets practice such exclusion, it is even more disappointing that a university student body is now also following this tendency.”

Universities should be places of open dialogue and intellectual debate – places of knowledge and diversity. However, the fact that the ÖH Innsbruck is deliberately excluding one party from the discussion instead of enabling students and the public to have a broad debate and diverse perspectives is an alarming signal of the erosion of democracy.

The deliberate exclusion of other opinions not only undermines democratic discourse, but also denies debate participants the chance to get to know the full spectrum of electable parties. This is in stark contrast to the basic principles of a vibrant democracy and an open-minded society.

The MFG will continue to work to ensure that open, fair and respectful political debate remains possible in Tyrol and throughout Austria – even if obstacles are placed in our way.
