MFG criticizes failed coalition negotiations: “The people are being mocked!”

Months of standstill and no government capable of acting – this is what the Austrian political landscape has been like since the National Council elections on September 29, 2024. The collapsed coalition negotiations are just the latest low point in a series of political mistakes that are further undermining the trust of the population. The MFG expresses clear criticism of this disastrous situation.

„What we experience here is like a kindergarten. Instead of respecting the clear will of the voters, personal vanities and party political tactics prevail,” said LABg. Joachim Aigner, MFG-Austria federal party chairman. “The people have a right to a government that works instead of getting lost in symbolic power games.”

Instead of taking responsibility together, the parties refuse to engage in serious negotiations. This is no longer about the well-being of people, but about pushing through our own agendas.“

LAbg. Manuel Krautgartner, MFG-OÖ club chairman, also finds clear words: “This political standstill is a mockery for every taxpayer who goes to work every day and expects a functioning state. We don’t need patronage politics, we need real reforms. The political elite has clearly forgotten its responsibility.“

The MFG sees this development as a sign of the established parties’ increasing loss of reality. While the population struggles with rising costs, a struggling economy and an ailing health system, the parties are devoting themselves to power games and symbolic politics.

“What we need are bold decisions and an end to partisan bickering. An effective government must finally be a priority. People have had enough of this spectacle,” was the joint demand of the three MFG MPs.

The MFG stands for transparency, direct democracy and an absolute focus on the needs of the population. In this sense, she calls on all political actors to give up their blockade and to fulfill their responsibilities. The standstill must be ended so that Austria can be able to act again.
