Altán Redes, América Móvil, AT & T Mexico and Telefónica Mexico announced the local introduction of the initiative and their potential for new businesses and cross -sectoral partnerships.
On the GSMA M360 LATAM Give Altán Redes, América Móvil, AT & T Mexico and Telefónica Mexico today the introduction of GSMA Open Gateway in the country. This global initiative, led by GSMA, enables mobile operators to open their networks in order to promote innovation and cooperation in the entire digital ecosystem.
GSMA Open Gateway is a standard through which mobile operators offer developers access to a number of network functions that are used to develop applications and services. By merging operators from all over the world, the initiative facilitates the development of digital products that work seamlessly on all devices regardless of the country and operator. This is achieved by clear access points, the so -called application programming interfaces (APIS), which serve as gateways about information about network capacities.
These APIs are over that CAMARA Repository, an open source project by the GSMA and the Linux Foundation, available to which developers can access to integrate them directly into their applications. Gsma Open Gateway simplifies and accelerates the innovation of developers and contributes to a more smooth and safer experience.
In the first phase of GSMA Open Gateway, the focus was on APIs for digital security. The three APIs presented in Mexico correspond to this trend:
· SIM SWAP: Enables the exchange of SIM cards in a mobile network;
· Device location: Provides information about the location of a device;
· Number check: Check whether a telephone number is connected to a specific device.
By providing important real-time information, these APIs help to uncover and prevent fraud with payments and financial transactions. For example, you can recognize suspicious changes to a customer’s mobile phone connection shortly before a larger money transfer and offer the user more security.
Since the start at the MWC Barcelona 2023, over 73 mobile operator groups that represent 284 mobile phone networks and almost 80 % of the global mobile phone connections, as well as 43 sales partners of the initiative have joined. Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Peru have already introduced their first api portfolio in Latin America, and further markets are to be added by 2025.
