The agreement on the Mercosur free trade agreement is a milestone for Europe. Free trade creates wealth, jobs and reduces trade barriers. JUNOS expressly welcomes this agreement.
“It is intolerable that Austria is blocking for populist reasons at the expense of employees and entrepreneurs. Instead of taking advantage of the opportunity, the farmers’ association condemned the agreement across the board as ‘anti-farmer’ – an untenable verdict,” criticizes JUNOS federal chairwoman Sophie Wotschke. The agreement combines tariff reductions with environmental standards and a commitment to sustainability. Austria must give up its blockade stance.
The young NEOS are calling for the abolition of the unanimity principle in free trade agreements. “To ensure that such agreements are not blocked for populist reasons, an increased qualified majority is necessary,” said Wotschke. JUNOS are committed to a Europe that sees free trade as an opportunity.
