The Viennese media entrepreneur Christian W. Mucha was awarded the Golden Medal of Merit of the State of Vienna today, Wednesday. Mayor Michael Ludwig presented the honor in a ceremonial setting in the City Senate meeting room of the Vienna City Hall.
“Christian Mucha has always provided new impetus for the local media landscape,” emphasized Mayor Ludwig during the welcome. From his beginnings as the founder of the “Löwy and Mucha Magazine Publishers” in 1978 to his current position as publisher and editor of the MG Media Group, Christian W. Mucha has had a lasting impact on the industry and continually revitalized it. In his laudatory speech, the cultural journalist Heinz Sichrovsky also praised Mucha’s career, “who has helped shape the Austrian media system for over four decades.”
The honor was also attended by numerous prominent guests from politics, business and culture, including former deputy state governor Sepp Rieder, former federal minister Maria Rauch-Kallat and ORF technical director Harald Kräuter. The musical accompaniment was provided by “Art4Strings”, who performed pieces such as “Wildest Dreams” by Taylor Swift and “Fly Me to the Moon” by Frank Sinatra.

Christian W. Mucha, born in 1954, is a Viennese media entrepreneur and publisher. After graduating from high school and discontinuing his studies in law, journalism and economics, he founded the “Löwy and Mucha Magazine Publishers” in 1978 and developed it into the MG media group. Today this includes magazines such as “Extradienst”, “FaktuM”, “FM” and “elite”. In 2023 he launched the sustainability magazine “CheckList”. Mucha shaped the media industry through innovative projects, digital expansion and controversial public appearances. He has four daughters, collects impressionist art and lives in Drasing Castle on Lake Wörthersee. His wife Ekaterina also works in his company.
