“With Topsy Küppers, Vienna loses a formative figure of cultural and social life. It was much more than a celebrated artist – she was a moral voice in this city,” said Vienna Mayor Dr. Michael Ludwig. “In her programs, she combined entertainment, ease with seriousness, humor with humanism. For decades she not only enriched Vienna’s cabaret scene, but also shaped it. Vienna bogged down in front of a great artist and Viennese. My sympathy applies to her family and everyone who has been close to her.”
“She was a fighter against anti-Semitism, contempt for women and forgetting,” adds cultural councilor Veronica Kaup-Hasler. “With wit, elegance and clarity, she has shaped the cultural life of this city for decades. Her courage to position and her unmistakable stage presence will be missing.”
Topsy Küppers was awarded the Golden Signs of Merit of the State of Vienna and the Culture Prize of the City of Vienna.
