Mayor Michael Ludwig and City Councilor for Culture and Science Veronica Kaup-Hasler react to the death of Reinhard Urbach.

“Reinhard Urbach was a cultural worker who has significantly and sustainably shaped literary and artistic life in our city,” said Vienna’s city chief. “As a scientist, he was one of those who made Arthur Schnitzler’s work beyond the national borders, as a publicist, he was always a passer of the literature of German with great profit to read – a passion that he also investigated in his work in the Austrian Society for Literature. For the Vienna Literature scene, he was also an important impulse as the first literary officer of the city of Vienna.”

Veronica Kaup-Hasler: “It was particularly important for him to impart art and culture and accessibility: when the literary quarters were founded in the old smithy, he was significantly involved and was still in May at the 50th anniversary with us among the congratulations. As director of the Theater der Jugend, he ensured that the recent of the city could also experience joy in art.”

Reinhard Urbach was awarded the Vienna Medal of Honor in Gold and the Golden Medal of Honor for Services around the State of Vienna.
