Many people donate their clothes that are no longer needed to the Carlas, the second-hand shops of Caritas. Unfortunately, a third of it is no longer suitable for sale – the trend is rising. A new campaign should now clarify and inform.
In a total of eleven Carlas of the Caritas of the Diocese of St. Pölten, donations are donated annually in around 220 tons of old clothing, furniture, household items and electrical appliances. An impressive sum and an important contribution so that things don’t land in the trash even though they are still in perfect condition.
But more and more donated textiles and shoes are dirty or damaged and must therefore be sorted out as no longer portable by Caritas. Around 30 percent of the goods donated are currently not suitable for sale and must be disposed of professionally by Caritas, which is often associated with high costs. This is particularly strong in the Carlas Krems and Vitis, the largest Carlas of Caritas St. Pölten.
For this reason, the Caritas St. Pölten is now starting a campaign on social media, in cinemas and posters that are supposed to draw attention to donors only to donate textiles that can actually still be used 1: 1.
