Numerous events along the Danube invite you to enjoy the most contemplative time of the year. The program ranges from traditional Christmas markets in a historical atmosphere and romantic boat trips to culinary delights in Christmas cellar alleys.
It’s still a while until Christmas, but as we all know, anticipation is the greatest joy. Many Advent markets invite you to linger and taste things from November onwards. You’ll also discover one or two Christmas presents.

Advent in a historical ambience
The Castle Advent at the Aggstein ruins traditionally opens the series of Advent markets in the Danube region. This weekend (November 15th – 17th), visitors have the opportunity to experience the medieval hustle and bustle at the castle ruins up close. The Hobby Art Advent at Leiben Castle invites you to enjoy Christmas already in November. This is also attractive in the Nibelungengau Adventdorf in Maria Taferl on the first weekend of Advent not only with specially brewed Christmas beer, but also with a fantastic view of the Danube Valley. Festively decorated huts, Christmas sounds and the smell of roasted almonds and hot punch: this is how the baroque celebrates Hof Castle from November 16th to December 22nd the Christmas season and offers the whole family an unforgettable experience. If you are looking for a historical ambience, you will also find it at Advent Magic in Göttweig (daily from November 30th to December 8th), during Advent in Klosterneuburg Abbey (every Friday to Sunday from December 6th to 22nd) or at Krems Advent in the Dominican Church (November 29th to December 1st). Dancing on December 8th Traismauer Castle the dolls. The popular nativity play with a 200-year tradition is considered a special rarity in the Danube region.
Arrival by public transport
It presents culinary delicacies, a variety of handicrafts and a great music program Melker Advent from November 29th to December 22nd. By the way, Melk can be easily reached by train. In the wine-growing regions along the Danube, customs and winemaking culture cannot be missed during the Christmas season. The picturesque one Rehberger Kellergasse or the Ahrenberger Kellergasse invite visitors to regional delicacies and fine wines on the weekend around November 24th.

Christmas market at Hof Castle
Nestled in a magnificent historical setting, the traditional Christmas market from November 16th to December 22nd offers a special (pre-)Christmas experience for the whole family! Around 80 exhibitors present their handicraft products and gift ideas with great attention to detail.

Wachauer ADVENT Dürnstein Castle
The romantic courtyard of Dürnstein Castle is the setting for an atmospheric, fine Advent market. On three weekends in December, on the 7th/8th. , 14/15. and 21/22.
