The current flood in Lower Austria has caused significant damage and hit many communities hard. The floodwaters have destroyed numerous houses and infrastructure, creating a major challenge for rescue workers and the affected population. Even though some practices themselves were badly hit by the flood, all other resident doctors continue to care for patients.
Dr. Max Wudy, chairman of the resident doctors in Lower Austria, already has experience with such challenging situations: “Unfortunately, this is not the first flood that we have been affected by in Lower Austria. But this is also why we know we can rely on our medical community. We have opened our offices and will provide medical care to anyone who needs help. We will do everything we can to maintain medical care for the population.”
Calling on patients to contact the practice before an appointment
Since even some ordinations are flooded and some employees will probably be missing from ordinations in the coming days, there could still be restrictions. Max Wudy therefore asks all patients: “Make sure that the practice is operational and that the appointment can be kept. If an appointment needs to be postponed, the resident doctors will make alternative appointments as quickly as possible.”
Thanks to their extraordinary commitment, the doctors in the practices and hospitals can also relieve the burden on emergency services that are facing enormous challenges due to the floods. The ordinations provide local and decentralized support in acute care and thus make a far-reaching contribution during this difficult time.
